Pedagogy and Seminars
(see News for course offering)
I started to teach in1986. Due to my experience as an actress, teacher, theater director and the several interchanges with other theater masters, I was able to assume the postulate of the organic performance for actors. I dare to sum up in a very free way the most known theatrical methods at present:
1.- In a traditional theater school it customary toteach the Stanislawsky method. Of course there are teachers who use other techniqes, however, the teachings of this great Master are still very prominent and are applied not only for theater actors but also for film stars at the famous Lee Strassberg Actors Studio. The main emphasis of this method is the emotional memory of the actors translated into the physical actions of the character. There are many other aspects of this technique but it would be very extensive to enumerate them here. In a word, it is based on an internal motivation which is externally exposed by performing a character
2.- Another very important method is based on the physical principles of movement and human body. This method is applied in relation to building a character. This method acts on the external conditions of the actor in order to put forth the “internal strings” for creative work (Grotowsky, Eugenio barba, Mario Delgado, among others).
During my pedagogical work I was able to evaluate that both methods are complementary and not opposite one other. In my case, I consider the capacities, limitations and possibilities of each student/participant and apply a combination of each methods. I must mentioned that the physical principles for performance, is wisely summed up by Eugene Barba and Nicola Savarese in “The Secret Art of Performing”. It sums up in many aspects the many labours of theater.
